The CCC Tigers closed their first half schedule on a high note in The Pinnacle Saturday afternoon, downing Hinds 68-67 in the second 1-point game of the year between the two outfits.
Dewuan Fowler was the engine for CCC, racking up his second 30+ point game of 2015 to drive the team to its 3rd victory.
Rufus Wilkins added 10 points and 5 boards.
CCC came into the game looking to avenge a 79-78 loss at Hinds on November 5th. The team came slow out of the gate though, with the Bulldogs opening the game on an 8-0 run. The visitors would build a 41-30 advantage in the closing seconds of the 2nd half. That's when Fowler, who had already reeled off 9 straight points in the period, threw down a vicious slam off a feed from
Monte Martin to change the feel of the game headed to the locker rooms.
In the 2nd half, a motivated Fowler showed why he's already drawing attention as one of the most dynamic players in the conference. The freshman went off for 21 in the game's 2nd 20 minutes. Explosive play from him plus key shots from reserves
Shannon Bailey and
Vedelski Woods got CCC back in it, and Fowler did not disappoint when it mattered most. The Kipp Collegiate grad canned a 2nd-chance hook shot with just under 3 minutes remaining to give CCC the lead, put home a layup on a beautiful give-and-go with Martin to reclaim it 2 1/2 minutes later, and grabbed a last-second steal to seal the win. He would finish with 32 points, 3 steals and 1 rebound. It was the second time he has scored 30+ in a game (November 9 vs. Meridian) and the second time he has scored 20+ in a half (November 16 vs. East Central).
The Tigers improved to 3-2 at home this year with the win. Hinds dropped to 4-6 overall.
