UTICA - The Lady Tigers fought hard but could not overcome a tough Hinds CC Lady Bulldog squad in Utica Thursday night, falling for the 2nd time this season. Eugenia Gilliam led the CCC team with 22 points.
The opening quarter went back and forth, with the Lady Bulldogs opening a slim advantage, 16-15. They would add to that in the 2nd period, outscoring CCC 21-9 to go into the locker room with a 37-24 advantage. The 2nd would prove to be crucial, as the two teams matched each other almost blow for blow in the 3rd and 4th, with Hinds establishing just a 37-33 edge in the game's final 20 minutes.Â
Gilliam turned in her 2nd spectacular scoring effort of the season, building on a 15-point game at East Central by knocking down 7 shots from the field and going a perfect 8-for-8 from the line against the Lady Bulldogs. The sophomore added 7 rebounds. Diamond Love added 9 points of her own and pulled down 8 boards. CCC shot 50% from the field in the 2nd half and 36% for the game.Â
Hinds was led by Kaletreon Baker and Adrianna Kemp, who combined for 23 points. The Lady Bulldog bench outscored CCC reserves 47-11.
