Lady Tigers Defeat Lady Buffs For 2nd Straight Win

Carnita Hammond leads the way with 16

CLARKSDALE - The Lady Tigers made it two in a row Tuesday night in The Pinnacle, upending Arkansas Baptist by a final of 78-70. Carnita Hammond poured in a season-high 16 points to lead CCC.

Riding the momentum of a 69-65 win over Meridian CC, the Lady Tigers came out strong, starting the game on a 23-8 run. Improved interior play and better finishing in transition continued to be the keys to success for the squad, who have turned an 0-2 start into a .500 mark through the first 4 games of the season.

With the team's leading scorer Eugenia Gilliam in early foul trouble, the rest of the squad stepped up. Hammond had her best game of the season, Destiny Monix finished with her own season-high 15, and Diamond Love and Destiny Moody combined for 22 in the Lady Tigers' highest team scoring total of the season.

CCC carried a 35-23 lead into the halftime break on the strength of 10 from Hammond. Arkansas Baptist would get their seasn-leading scorer Emani Hamilton going in the 2nd half and eventually trim the lead to a half dozen late in the 4th, but clutch free throw shooting by Monix would put it on ice for the home team. Hamilton was mostly limited by good CCC defense and foul trouble, finishing with just 10 points. Kalela Miller was the game-high scorer with 26.

The Lady Tigers head to Shreveport this weekend for matchups with Southern University-Shreveport and Bossier Parish in the Southern Classic. CCC will play Southern at 6 on Friday and then battle Bossier at noon on Saturday.
