CLARKSDALE - The CCC Tigers picked up their first W under head coach Michael Stringer on Monday in The Pinnacle in dominant fashion over Meridian, 94-80. Dewuan Fowler, a freshman from Kipp Collegiate in Memphis, electrified the gym with an incredible 35-point explosion to lead the team to the resounding victory.
Â
Meridian began the game on a 7-0 run, but after that it was all CCC. Fowler, who played limited minutes at Hinds, dazzled with an array of 3s and strong finishes at the rim on his way to a first half 18. CCC took a 51-35 lead to the break.
Â
Out of the locker rooms, it was all Fowler once again. The guard impressed as strongly on the defensive end as he did on the offensive, keying steals and disrupting passing lanes. He scored the first 8 points of the period for the Tigers.
Â
Also turning in strong games were Cortavious Miller who put up 13 points, Rufus Wilkins, who pulled down a season-high 12 rebounds while dishing out 3 assists, and Jonathan Ankston, who cashed in for 11 points in his first start of the season.
The Tigers will try to make it two in a row tonight vs. Arkansas Baptist. Tip is slated for 8 pm in The Pinnacle vs. the Buffs.
