UTICA—The CCC Tigers dropped another close one to Hinds CC Thursday night, falling by a final of 65-54 despite solid games from Da'Quan Forrest and Anthony Dorsey. The loss was the Tigers' tenth of the season.
Forrest, who came into the game averaging over 13 points in each of the Tigers' last 5 contests, continued to show off his penchant for sinking impossibly deep threes. The sophomore from Kosciusko was money from deep, earning all 18 of his points from beyond the arc. His 6 triples in the contest matched the total made by the entire Hinds team, and it was the fifth time he has scored in double figures this season. Â
Anthony Dorsey was another bright spot for the Tigers. The sophomore forward finished with 10 points— 8 of them in the stretch run of the second half— and pulled down 5 rebounds, blocked a shot, and managed 2 steals. Dorsey has now recorded at least 1 block and 1 steal in each of the Tigers' last 4 games.
Hinds built a 37-24 lead heading into half, but the Tigers roared out of the break on a 19-6 run that was capped by a Forrest three that cut the Bulldogs' lead to just 47-43 with 11:35 to go.Â
But down the stretch, Hinds proved too hot to catch, repeatedly puncturing CCC comeback attempts and finishing the game strong to seal their sixth win of the season.Â
The Bulldogs outshot the Tigers 47% to 29% from the field and 69% to 46% at the line, finishing with 4 players in double figures. They were paced by LaDarrius Drain (15 points, 7 rebounds) and De'Andre Bolton (12 points, 8 rebounds).
The contest in Utica marked the season debut of four new CCC players. Tevin Jones, Perry Henry, Cadarrius Cannon, and Rufus Wilkins all got minutes for the somewhat-reconstructed squad. Wilkins, a forward from Friars Point, led all newcomers in minutes (11) and points (4).
The Tigers are back in action January 15th at home vs. East Mississippi CC. Tipoff is slated for 8 pm.
