CLARKSDALE— The Tigers took an early 2nd half lead Thursday vs. Itawamba, but were ultimately unable to hold on to the edge, falling to Itawamba by a final of 82-70.
Cameron Monix led the way for the Tigers, going 5-8 from the field and 6-9 from the line on his way to a team-high 16 points. Monix, a sophomore graduate of Lee Academy, added 7 assists. It was the 9th time that the Tiger point guard has had 7 or more dimes in a game this season.
CCC shot just 36% from the field in the first half, but hung tough and trailed by just 3 heading into the break. A field goal in the paint by LaTerrence Henderson 1:17 into the 2nd period gave the home squad their first lead of the contest.
The teams exchanged salvos in the ensuing minutes, trading the lead until the 13:10 mark, when Tyrone Wooten, an ICC guard who did not play in the first half, took over the contest. Wooten scored 8 consecutive points to give ICC an advantage they would not relinquish. Wooten finished with 17 points in just 12 minutes of action.
Michael West III and Tevin Jones each finished with 12 points for the Tigers, and Wille Bronson added 10 of his own, but the Tigers could not avoid their 16th loss of the year. The loss was their 11th in MACJC play.
CCC travels to Goodman Monday, February 2nd to take on Holmes CC, whom they fell to 84-68 in early December. Tipoff in the contest is slated for 8 pm.
