EMCC Lady Lions Too Much For Lady Tigers Down The Stretch

Late game heroics by Patterson give Lady Lions the win

CLARKSDALE—The Lady Lions of East Mississippi bested the Lady Tigers last night in The Pinnacle, prevailing by a final of 62-46. Josta Totten and Erica Collins each finished with 9 points for CCC.

The Lady Tigers played a strong first half and led for the first 11:29 of the game. EMCC was able to retake the advantage of the final minutes of the half, but their lead stood at just 4 heading into the break.

EMCC threatened to run away with the game early in the second half, but a field goal in the paint by Shontrel Williams with a touch less than 11 to go and then a couple of key free throws by Totten kept the Lady Tigers in the contest. They trailed by just 5 as the game wound down under the 10 minute mark.

Ki-Ki Patterson came up big for East Mississippi down the stretch. The freshman guard scored 9 of her game-high 15 points in the contest's final 8:30. Her 3-pointer with 8:16 left helped key an 11-5 run that saw EMCC increase its lead from 8 to 15, a hole that proved to be too much for CCC.

The Lady Tigers turned the ball over 23 times, and the Lady Lions were able to capitalize off the miscues for 23 points. The EMCC bench was the more effective unit, outscoring CCC reserves 15-6.  The Lady Lions outshot the Lady Tigers 54% to 34% from the field, though CCC was the more effective team from the line. The Lady Tigers, who missed 23 free throws January 8th vs. Hinds, managed to sink 14 of their 21 attempts from the stripe.

The loss dropped CCC to 2-10 overall on the season and 1-7 in MACJC play. They are winless in MACJC North play. EMCC improved to 7-6 with the victory.

The Lady Tigers return to the court for their homecoming game Saturday, January 17th vs. Southern University-Shreveport. The game will be played in the Pinnacle and will feature a number of festivities, including the induction of Charles Presley and Carla Lucas-Whitfield into the CCC Hall of Fame. Tipoff in the ladies' game is set for 1 pm.
